I paint in the studio and outside which is called en plein air. A day painting outside really is an adventure much like a full day at the beach with small children. There is a lot to pack, a lot to carry, and it's a lot of work.
So discovering Urban Sketchers has been a treat and a guilty pleasure- my mental floss. The following comes from the Urban Sketchers website;
"Mission-We are an all-volunteer nonprofit dedicated to fostering a global community of artists who practice on-location drawing.
Our mission is to raise the artistic, storytelling and educational value of on-location drawing, promoting its practice and connecting people around the world who draw on location where they live and travel."
How cool is that!
So once a month here in Charleston we show up with notebook, pens and sometimes watercolors in hand. We congregate in various venues around town. No experience required. I don't even know everyone's background, but it doesn't matter. For 2 hours we draw and commune with the world around us.
There are Urban Sketchers all over the world and a list of chapters and more information is at the website. A click on the logo will zip you there. Enjoy! Here are some of my drawings.
