Original works by Karyn Healey will be on view at the Charleston Artist Guild Gallery in Charleston, September 1 - 30, 2019, and a reception will be held September 6,
5 - 8pm. The opening reception was rescheduled due to hurricane Dorian. A small but hearty crew attended and my favorite acoustic guitarist was there along with King Pops and Prosecco. EXIT Strategy, a collection of oil paintings, mixed media and collage work, depicts social commentary and artistic growth. Art as a rule, can serve as a distraction or temporary exit from life’s demands, and this collection literally shows change or departure - welcome or not. For example, Hurricane Supplies, is a still life completed while waiting for Hurricane Florence. In this show Healey's recognizable geometric style evolves and becomes more simplified showing “exits” in thought, preparation, action and even from life itself. A sampling of the work is below. The phrase exit strategy can also mean a change in venue or a way out, and after five years with the CAG Gallery on East Bay Street it is time to bid a fond farewell at the end of September and make room for other artists to exhibit their work and volunteer for the Guild. Healey has served on the CAG board in addition to volunteering with the nonprofit Guild’s community outreach programs which benefit from sales made at the gallery. For more information call 843-722-2454 or visit (www.CharlestonArtGuild.com). The gallery is located at 160 East Bay Street, Charleston, SC and is open daily, 11am - 6pm. Parking is available around the corner at 25 Prioleau St, Charleston, SC 29401. |
